Pioneer Oil Producers Society (P.O.P.S.)

We are vested and invested in the oil/energy industry and its related businesses and their impact on our individual lives and the future of our country. Our program committee is providing very interesting and informative speakers who provide us with information we need to consider and decide what role each of us can and should play in protecting and enhancing our industry and country for the future. We learn, we participate or we let it happen. Let’s be active; encourage each other, seek new members, attend all meetings and make suggestions for improving POPS.

  May 20 Meeting Notice

Harris County covers about 1,700 square miles, has a population of 4.1 million people – exceeding the population of 24 states – and is adding about 200,000 residents annually. Judge Ed Emmett is the Chief Executive Officer of the county and our county’s Director of Homeland Security.

Judge Emmett will speak to POPS on May 20 and will talk about, among other things, the impact the petroleum business has on Houston, Harris County and the state of Texas.

Ted Christiansen, President, IntelliServ Division, National Oilwell Varco (NOV) presented the April 2013 program on “The Wired Drillpipe Revolution: How high speed down hole telemetry will dramatically improve the efficiency of the drilling process.” Our thanks are extended to Mr. Christiansen for providing the POPS membership a look at this enlightening and interesting technology. His slides can be found on the POPS website.

Again, members are encouraged to check with fellow members and friends who would like to attend POPS meeting, but for various reasons are unable to drive. Offer a ride to the May meeting. I’m sure your helping hand will be appreciated.

Your continued effort to support POPS is greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you at the May 20 meeting. Please remind your fellow POPS members of this meeting. Bring a guest and enjoy the fellowship, lunch and program.

Buddy Ives
President

  Apr 15 Meeting Minutes

Buddy Ives, President, welcomed those in attendance as he opened the meeting. His first item on the agenda was to remind the membership the importance of providing the membership team any updates to contact information, especially e-mail addresses. Again, he noted the use of emails will continue to expand this year to provide POPS updates and other important information to the membership. In closing, he reminded the membership that the Red Bowls on the tables are for the Houston Food Bank donation.

Lou Powers, substituting for Jack Walker, Chaplain, provided the blessing for the April meeting and announced the membership was in good health.

Russell Wright, Membership Secretary, reported on the current membership and encouraged the membership to review their contact information and make any necessary changes. He also announced there were no new members since the March meeting.

Preston Meeks, substituting for Dan Moriarty, reported no guest had signed in for the April meeting.

Bob Scott, Historian, provided the April industry history.

Ron Harrell, V.P. Programs, announced that Judge Ed Emmett had agreed to present the May program.

Bill Humppi introduced the April speaker, Ted Christiansen, President, IntelliServ Division, National Oilewell Varco.
